Strike pledge: Tribune Publishing unions
Union journalists at Tribune Publishing properties have been fighting for a fair contract for more than five years. Now, we say enough is enough. Amid historic inflation, we’ve called on the company to offer fair wages and fix systemic pay gaps between male and female journalists and white journalists and journalists of color. We’ve asked the employer to maintain its 401K contribution so employees can retire with dignity. Over and over, the company has refused to meet these basic needs.
The journalists at the Chicago Tribune, the Design and Production Studio, Tribune Content Agency, the suburban Chicago Tribune publications, the Allentown Morning Call, The Virginian-Pilot/Daily Press and the Orlando Sentinel will walk out in unison for 24 hours. The undersigned represent a supermajority of members at these unionized Tribune newsrooms who have committed to walking out. We sign onto this public pledge to stand with our Tribune colleagues in demanding that the company stop stalling and finally agree to a fair contract. We bring expertise and excellence to Alden and we are worth more than what management is offering. We are ready to do what it takes to get the contract we deserve.
